In another incident of targeted violence against security operatives, gunmen killed a police operative in Ebonyi State.
The attack occurred around 11:00 a.m. on Thursday along Ngbo-Effium Road in Ohaukwu Local Government Area. The police were reportedly on patrol when the assailants ambushed them, resulting in a shootout.
The police spokesperson in the state, Joshua Ukandu, confirmed the incident, stating that one police operative lost his life during the exchange of fire while another sustained injuries and is receiving medical treatment.
He said the Commissioner of Police in Ebonyi State had deployed tactical teams to the scene and urged residents to provide helpful information to apprehend the attackers.
The attack in Ebonyi comes shortly after a similar incident in Akwa Ibom State.
