Unknown gunmen have killed three worshippers at a Catholic church in Ebonyi state.
The Catholic Bishop of Abakaliki Diocese, Peter Nworie, made this known while addressing his congregation.
He condemned the tragic killing of the three worshippers during a Christmas vigil mass on Sunday night.
He said the incident occurred at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Nkweagu, in Abakaliki Local Government Area of Ebonyi State at 11:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve.
Bishop Nworie, during Monday’s Christmas service at Saint Theresa Cathedral Church, described the occurrence as profoundly sorrowful and prayed for the souls of the deceased.
Expressing the unprecedented nature of the violence within the church premises, Bishop Nworie emphasized, “This is the first time such an incident is happening in the church and in Ebonyi State in general.”
During his sermon, the Bishop urged the community to reflect on the essence of Christmas, calling for prayers for unity and progress in Ebonyi and Nigeria.
