Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State says President Muhammadu Buhari has assured him of boosting security in the southeast state ahead of the yuletide.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that police operatives in the South-east and South-south have been the target of deadly attacks by gunmen suspected to be members of IPOB, a pro-Biafra group.
The group, which has been proscribed by the Nigerian government, has denied their involvement in the attacks while its supporters online continue to blame the mindless killings in southeast on ‘Unknown Gunmen’. The high rate of insecurity in that region informed the launch of Operation Golden Dawn by the Nigerian military.
On Tuesday, Buhari met behind closed doors with Governor Uzodinma in the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Giving an update on his meeting with Buhari, the Imo Governor said he updated the president on security and socio-economic developments in his state.
“In my commitment and determination for a secured and peaceful Imo State, today I paid a working visit to President Muhammadu Buhari GCFR with report on our prevailing circumstances, while seeking further assistance to boost our security ahead of the yuletide season.
“Mr President graciously heeded to my supplications and assured of a satisfying attention deserving of my requests. My administration would continually align the State for interventions that complement on our policies for the development we desire,” a Facebook post by Uzodimma reads.
