Unknown gunmen have reportedly attacked security officers and set a Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) vehicle ablaze along Issele-Azagba, Aniocha North Local Government Area (LGA) of Delta State.
POLITICS NIGERIA learned that the gunmen ambushed the police and the vigilantes at the customs checkpoint. The attack occurred on Wednesday evening.
The police confirmed the attack, but said no security operative was killed. It is understood that the police are on the trail of the perpetrators.
Nigeria has seen a surge in violence, with more dozens of police and other security personnel killed by gunmen since last year, according to local media tallies.
Critics and opposition voices have blamed the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari for the worsening insecurity in the country. They accuse the Nigerian leader of incompetence.
