
The Vice President, Kashim Shettima on Wednesday was at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport en route to Mokwa community in Niger to assess the impact of the flood which led to the death of over 150 people.
Stanley Nkwocha, a media aide to the vice president in a statement said Shettima would be in Mokwa for an on-the-spot assessment of the flooding that has affected the area.
According to Nkwocha, during the visit, the vice president will conduct a first-hand evaluation of the damage caused by the flood in the Niger communities.
He said the vice president will also be delivering a condolence message on behalf of President Bola Tinubu to the people of Mokwa.
He said the president has also assured the affected residents of the community of the government’s committment to tending to their welfare.
Recall that President Tinubu had earlier expressed concern over the flooding that ravaged the communities.
Several people including women and children were killed while others were displaced with their homes completely submerged in the flood.
The president had also directed relevant authorities led by the National Emergency Management Agency to activate the National Emergency Response Centre.
The team are expected to ensure the safe evacuation of all those affected by the incidents
