“Waste of resources” – Nigerians slam Gov Okpebholo for hosting Edo Investment Summit in UK

Nigerians have faulted Govenor Monday Okpebholo of Edo for holding an investment summit in Glasgow, describing it as a waste of taxpayers’ money.

On X, formerly Twitter, many users questioned why the state government could not hold the summit in Benin, the state capital, instead of travelling abroad.

One user, @DonSimpleABC, wrote: “How many times has any state in the UK hosted an investment summit in Edo state? Wasting taxpayers’ money on a jamboree.”

The summit, aimed at promoting diaspora partnerships and attracting foreign capital into Edo, has drawn backlash from Nigerians who questioned its location and cost.

Another user, @iamswag6ixsneh, mocked the event, asking: “Edo state summit in Glasgow keh, wetin do Benin?”

@Odosa_Ed said partnerships with the diaspora would only be effective if there was stable electricity in the state.

Others questioned the governor’s priorities, dress sense, and the return on investment from the summit.

@Bammyalexx wrote: “Can you pronounce the amount put into this summit? Also, what is going to be the ROI of the summit?”

Okpebholo, who became governor after the September 2024 election, has defended the summit as a platform to showcase Edo’s potential to international investors.
