‘We did everything within our power to retrieve our mandate’, PDP apologises to Edo supporters

The leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Edo State on Tuesday apologised to its supporters over the failure to retrieve its mandate at the Supreme Court.

The party had accused the All Progressives Congress (APC) led by Monday Okpebholo in the state of stealing its mandate in the September 2024 gubernatorial election.

Tony Aziegbemi, the PDP’s caretaker committee chairman, said the party did everything within its power to retrieve its mandate but was met with stiff resistance.

According to Aziegbemi, the petitions filed by the party in court were clear and strong enough to secure victories at the courts.

“We did everything within our power to retrieve our mandate, but the collusion … was a hurdle we could not overcome.

“With the Supreme Court ruling, we have reached the final bus stop. We must now close that chapter and begin repositioning the party in the state,” he said.

He further urged members of the party and its supporters to remain committed to the PDP, especially in their efforts to oust President Bola Tinubu from power in 2027.

“They have ruined this nation’s economy. We cannot continue like this. That is the mandate we are giving you—start preparing from now,” Aziegbemi said.
