The Speaker of the House of Representatives has urged governments at all levels and the private sector to spare no effort in backing policies that safeguard the rights of Nigerian children, including their fundamental right to receive a quality education and other entitlements.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that in a statement released on Friday to mark this year’s Children’s Day celebration, Gbajabiamila highlighted the remarkable determination displayed by children in overcoming challenges and achieving remarkable feats since the previous celebration.
Nevertheless, the Speaker underscored the necessity of collective endeavours to help Nigerian children unleash their potential and realise their aspirations.
He expressed deep concern over the alarming statistics of out-of-school children in the country, emphasising that it poses a grave threat to the nation’s future.
“The adage ‘Children are the leaders of tomorrow’ necessitates the deliberate and strategic formulation and implementation of policies, alongside legislative measures, to ensure Nigerian children receive quality education and to significantly reduce the number of out-of-school children across all tiers of government,” he stressed.
The statement was issued by Lanre Lasisi, the Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, to the Speaker.
