‘We must end this cycle of destruction’, Atiku on recurring tanker explosions

A former vice president of Nigeria, Atiku Abubakar has decried the incessant tanker explosions across different states of the country.

Reacting to the recent accident and explosion that led to the death of six people and the destruction of 14 vehicles in the Federal Capital Territory, Atiku called for measures to nip the situation in the bud.

In a post on X, the former vice president said the recurring loss of lives and property due to tanker explosions is no longer acceptable.

Stating that the explosions from tankers on Nigerian roads must be treated as a national emergency, Atiku called for the establishment of a high-powered presidential panel to probe these incidents.

He said, “With this latest incident, it is clear that tanker explosions must be treated as a national emergency.

“Two weeks ago, we witnessed a similar disaster at Otedola Bridge in Lagos. How many more lives must be lost before decisive action is taken?” he queried.

Further noting that citizens’ safety is non-negotiable, Atiku condoled with families of the Abuja explosion.

“The safety of our citizens is non-negotiable, and we must end this cycle of destruction,” he said.
