The Emir of Gwandu, Kebbi State, Muhammadu Iliyasu-Bashar, has called on Nigerians to do everything necessary to ensure the unity of the country.
He stated this during a banquet organised in honour of the Vice-Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt, Prof. Georgewill Owunary, at his palace in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday.
Iliyasu-Bashar, who is the Pro-Chacellor of the University of Port Harcourt and also Chairman, Kebbi Council of Emirs, urged Nigerians to demonstrate high sense of patriotism to promote peace and unity in the country.
“This country is ours, we must therefore see ourselves as brothers and sisters. Nigeria is a big country and contains so much, we must sacrifice to keep it one,” he said.
The royal father appreciated God Almighty for giving him the opportunity to serve in different capacities across the nation.
He also appreciated the VC and his subordinates for running the university smoothly.
Earlier, Onuwary lauded the gesture, describing it as an honour he never received in his life.
Represented by Prof. Clifford Obiyo-Ofurun, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Owunary tasked Nigerians on humility, unity and oneness.
He described the emir as an embodiment of unity, peace and national cohesion, while appreciating him for his contributions to the university and the country at large.
