Members of the House of Representatives on Tuesday apologised to Nigerians and the candidates affected by the error made by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The lawmakers apologising for the mass failure experienced by the candidates due to a technical error, as claimed by JAMB, called for an independent investigation into the matter.
Speaking during a world press conference at the National Assembly complex in Abuja, the chairman of the House Committee on Basic Education, Oforji Oboku, said the House was mediating between JAMB and the students.
The chairman also noted that the committee is currently working with the examination body to ensure that high standards are set in the handling and processing of the examinations conducted for candidates across the six geo-political zones.
He said, “We sincerely apologise on behalf of the examination body (JAMB) to all Nigerians.
“The committee recognises the courage and sincerity of the JAMB Registrar, Professor Ishaq Oloyede, for accepting the fault on behalf of his team and apologising to the parents, candidates, and the nation in general,” Oboku said.
