We Spent N150m Monthly to Keep State Clean – APC Governor Says

Governor Inuwa Yahaya of Gombe State has revealed that the state government spends a minimum of N150 million monthly to maintain cleanliness and environmental sustainability in the state.

The governor, a member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), made this statement on Wednesday during the inauguration of the 2024 desilt exercise of major storm drains in Gombe metropolis.

Governor Yahaya said it is important that residents collectively keep the environment clean. He also urged them to utilize newly built waste collection centres in their communities.

According to him, indiscriminate waste disposal in drains contributes to environmental challenges, including flooding.

The governor announced the commencement of clearing major water channels to ensure free water flow, prevent flooding, and protect human lives, property, and infrastructure. He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to environmental conservation through proper waste management and massive tree planting across the state.

The government plans to construct 21 additional waste collection centres under the ACReSAL project, in partnership with the World Bank. The State Environmental Protection Agency (GOSEPA) will ensure daily waste evacuation from collection centres to maintain a cleaner and healthier environment.
