The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has said it will no longer serve as a tool for politicians.
The announcement comes as the party prepares for the 2027 elections which it said will mark 20 years of participation in Nigeria’s electoral process.
ADC National Chairman Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu made the disclosure on Monday while addressing the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting.
He expressed concerns over Nigerian politicians’ lack of ideology and the practice of using alternative parties as “special purpose vehicles” to contest elections.
The party founded in 2006, has fielded presidential candidates since 2007. But the candidates always dump the party prior to the election proper.
Nwosu also revealed that the party has resolved its internal differences through the Independent National Electoral Commission’s (INEC) Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanism.
“After 20 years, we must get it right. If I offended you, this is the time to forgive and we must make progress.
“We must forge big alliances like the one we are forging with PRP. I want us to come with the heart of love. By 2025, our party will become the number one party in Nigeria,” he said.
He stated that the country needs to start building institutions that can stand the test of time, adding that with INEC’s ADR, peace has returned to ADC.
“Why do we elect few members in elective positions? Why can’t we have the majority in the house?” he asked.
Nwosu said ADC will become the number one political party in the country, where “some of us will end up working in the villa; some of you will be elected into offices. When we do this, the sky will be your limit.”
