A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Bayelsa State, Preye Aganaba has said that the party is waiting to receive Governor Douye Diri who just resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Speaking during an interview on Rythm 94.7 FM in Yenagoa, Bayelsa’s capital city, Aganaba said the APC is expecting that Diri would join the ruling party.

Recall that Governor Diri had dumped the PDP alongside his key cabinet members and supporters last week.

The governor while announcing his resignation from the now opposition party in the state did not disclose which party he would be joining despite strong insinuations that he would be going for the APC.

Speaking on the governor’s possible political move, Aganaba said the APC is ever willing and ready to receive Diri to join in the common purpose of delivering the dividends of President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Odi-born politician said the decision of the Bayelsa Governor to defect to the ruling party will not come as a surprise to APC members due to his impactful leadership traits.

“The kind of impactful leadership and bold reforms led by President Bola Tinubu have unlocked enormous resources for governors to carry out development in their various states. It is only natural for those of them who are people-oriented to align with the President,” Aganaba said.

Highlighting some of Diri’s possible line of action, Aganaba insisted that it is the national leadership of the party that will receive the governor and the state apparatus of the party will follow their lead.

On the level of infrastructural development in the state, the politician expressed optimism that the interventions by the governor suggest that working together in unity political leaders will attract more projects to the state.

Also addressing speculations that former president Goodluck Jonathan might be contesting the 2027 elections, the APC chieftain said he doubted the veracity of such a claim.

He said Jonathan is now a respected statesman best suited for mentoring younger people and should not be seen running elections in the country anymore.
