What Afenifere said about Tinubu sitting to greet Ooni of Ife

Pan-Yoruba group, Afenifere, has berated the former governor of Lagos State, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, for sitting to greet the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, at the coronation of the Oniru of Iruland, Oba Omogbolahan Lawal.

Reacting to a viral picture showing Tinubu sitting down to greet the monarch while the Ooni stands to greet him, the spokesman of the group, Yinka Odumakin on Wednesday said the APC national leader should have stood up to greet the monarch.

Odumakin slammed Tinubu for not respecting traditional institutions and culture as a Yoruba chief and leader, recalling when former President Olusegun Obasanjo bowed down to greet the monarch despite being many years older than him.

He said: “We are still Yoruba people. With due respect to our royal fathers, we should not say because we are in a modern age, we should not give the proper respect that we give to our oba.

“You saw the time former President Obasanjo prostrated before the Ooni.

“So, it is still our culture and we must sustain our culture and give the respect that is due to our monarchs.”

  1. Ahmed Bola Tinubu has thrown culture to the dust by his sitting down to greet Oni of Ife. He, Tinubu, only wants to lead and not to be led. I see him as a non-conformist. He should learn from elders

  2. That is a sign of disrespect from Tinubu to Ooni. He is expected preserve our culture and our value but reverse is the case.
