The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike has queried a former Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika over the fate of the controversial national carrier, Air Nigeria.
Wike’s query follows the adoption of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) as the coalition platform for ousting the incumbent president from power.
Speaking during his monthly media chat with select journalists in Abuja, the Minister chided the coalition leadership over the integrity of individuals they selected as members and leaders of the ADC.
The minister condemned the coalition members for claiming they aim to rescue Nigeria because Nigerians are angry.
He said, “I saw Hadi Sirika in coalition. They say Nigerians are angry and want to rescue Nigeria, so I’m asking this simple question: What happened to Air Nigeria? Nigerians were happy then?
“I’ll take them one by one. When Ameachi was Minister, we took a heavy loan from China. Things were well with Nigeria then. Nigerians were not angry, right?
“When they went to APC in 2015 and took over the reins of power until 2023, Nigerians were happy?” Wike asked.
He further stated that most of the politicians in the coalition party have been in power for a long time and have failed to deliver the country from its challenges.
According to him, it is wrong for members of the coalition – who have also been part of governments before President Bola Tinubu – to claim they want to rescue Nigeria from a man who has only been in charge for barely two years.
“Was it under Tinubu’s government that banditry came? It was not under his government. What is he doing to solve the problem he met?
“I read what former Attorney General Malami said and I was so embarrassed, he was the Attorney General, he knew what happened in this country. Why are people thinking that Nigerians have gone so foolish, that you use Nigerians all the time,” Wike added.
