Tinubu’s govt reveals plan to build new national museum and theatre in Abuja

The Minister of Art, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, has unveiled plans to establish a National Museum and a National Theatre within an envisioned creative city in Abuja.

Musawa made this known during the presentation of the 2024 Appropriation Budget draft to the Senate Committee on Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy at the National Assembly].

She said the projects are critical focal points for the ministry, aiming to create employment opportunities not only for creatives but also for Nigerians at large.

The minister highlighted that the realization of the projects hinges on the Senate’s approval of the 2024 appropriation budget.

Asserting the ministry’s goals in alignment with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, Musawa expressed intentions to contribute N100 billion to Nigeria’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) by 2030.

Musawa underscored the importance of the Creative Economy, citing its role in attracting foreign investment, cultural promotion, and preservation under the 1999 Constitution’s Section 21.

“We have set high key performance indicators for the ministry, and we are ready to hit the aspirational targets we have set for ourselves.

”This is a new ministry that is also trying to create jobs and establish an intellectual property framework that will harness the culture and creativity of Nigeria. This, therefore, will require adequate financial provision,” she added.
