What Nigerian youths must do before 2023 – Atedo Peterside

Atedo Peterside, the founder of Stanbic IBTC and Anap Foundation, has advised Nigerian youths to “register en-masse and pick up their voters’ cards well before the 2023 general elections”.

Peterside gave this charge on Wednesday during his keynote address at musician, Jude M.I Abaga’s Ignite Conference in Lagos. The event has the theme, ‘Hitting Rock Bottom: Finding Our Way Back Up’.

“Today I gave the Keynote Address at @MI_Abaga’s IGNITE Conference, speaking on ‘Hitting Rock Bottom, Finding a Way Back Up’. Amongst other things I pointed out that Nigerian youths must register en-masse and pick up their voters’ cards well before the 2023 elections,” Peterside wrote on his known Twitter handle.

The 2021 edition of the Ignite conference touched on a plethora of issues plaguing Nigeria, with speakers like Dr. Peterside, Ibrahim Faruk, Serah Makka Ugbaba, and Anto Lecky, in a panel discussion.

Organizers say the conference is a next step from the IGNITE sessions which debuted this year with a series of conversations that explore possible apathy triggers among the youth, including police brutality, ethnic-based violence, militarised institutions, et cetera.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that there are over 84 million registered voters in Nigeria. The Nigerian youths aged 18-40 constitute more than 60 percent of the registered voters. Some public affairs commentators say this is an indication that the Nigerian youths have the power to change the direction of the country, even if the political leadership is not ready to share power with them.
