Senator Shehu Sani has shared his thoughts on what he feels about Nyesom Wike’s position as a minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) under an All Progressives Congress (APC)-led government.
Speaking with Punch recently, Sani noted that Wike was one of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) bigwigs who fought against the presidential ambition of Alhaji Atiku Abubakar.
The former lawmaker added that after undermining the chances of the PDP in the last general elections, Wike and his group are now in a new camp.
But Sani recalled that the former Rivers governor had described the PDP as malaria and the ruling party as cancer.
For him, Wike is now in a cancerous situation by accepting to work in President Bola Tinubu’s cabinet, though still a PDP member.
His words:
“The actions of Wike and his colleagues after losing the presidential primary seriously undermined the presidential ambition of Atiku Abubakar and also the chances of the party.
“So, they betrayed their political party and have now found a new camp.
“Wike was a man who described the PDP’s problem as malaria and the APC’s as cancer, and he has now found himself in a cancerous position.”
He believes the PDP is losing its ground as an opposition party, noting that the Labour Party in recent times has overtaken it in the role of putting up strong attacks on the current administration.
Sani said:
“An opposition party must distinguish its position, principle, stance and focus. The PDP has lost power to the APC and it is now losing the role of the opposition to the Labour Party.
“If you look at what is happening, most of the attacks are coming from the LP. So, it has reached a point that even most members of the APC don’t consider the PDP as a serious opposition party.”
