“Why I dissolved my cabinet” – Governor Bago opens up

Niger State governor, Umar Bago has opened up on why he dissolved his cabinet.

Speaking to journalists hours after news broke on his decision on Monday, the governor said his action is part of a mid-term assessment of his administration’s performance.

According to Bago, the major shake-up in his cabinet is aimed at ushering in new perspectives to the system.

He also said that this move would bring in new energy into governance in the state and improve service delivery across all sectors of the state’s economy.

Recall that Bago had through his chief press Secretary, Ibrahim Bologi announced the dissolution of his cabinet.

The governor in a statement released by Bologi said some key officials within his cabinet including the Secretary to the State Government, the Chief of Staff, the Deputy Chief of Staff, and other principal officers in his office would be retained.

However, speaking to journalists in Minna, the Niger state capital city, Bago said: “This is a mid-term review of our performance, and as you know very well, these people were appointed by me. I have decided, in the interest of every other person, to rejig the cabinet.

“Some may be reappointed, while others may be assigned to other portfolios to give fresh energy to the system.

“They have done their Key Performance Index: some exceeded it, while we find out that others can be valuable in other fields,” Bago stated.
