Why Igbo men struggle in politics – Pete Edochie

Nollywood veteran Pete Edochie has given an insight into the reason politicians from the Igbo extraction find it difficult to adapt in Nigerian politics.

Edochie said most of the Igbo men struggle in politics because they find it difficult to tolerate the treacherous attributes associated with politics.

Speaking in an interview with Afia TV, the actor Igbo politicians are quick to end their relationship with colleagues who betray them rather than seek ways to endure their treacherous behaviours.

He added that the inability of Igbo politicians to sustain these political relationships has become their biggest career bane.

Further buttressing his point, Edochie said the behaviour of the Southeast politician is guided by the Igbo culture where loyalty and trust are paramount in business dealings.

“An Igbo man is not a good politician. And I will tell you why, people who are used to politics or the treachery that characterises politics, can overlook a lot of things. But the Igbo man is not constituted to condone treachery a second time,” Edochie said.

He also stated that Igbo people when hurt are strongly guided by themselves not to allow the person who hurt them to do that again.

“If you hurt the Igbo man once in politics, he will never allow you to hurt him again. He will recoil himself. That’s the average Igbo man.

“The Igbo man is not constituted to sustain political treachery. The moment you exhibit treachery in your involvement with an Igbo man, they cut you off. That’s it,” the veteran actor said.
