A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Tonye Princewill has said that Nigerians find it difficult to be patriotic citizens.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Princewill said that only a few Nigerians are willing to sacrifice for the country.
According to Princewill, most citizens have come to the conclusion that the country is not willing to make sacrifices for them.
He said he admonished young people who work with him to exhibit strong love for Nigeria.
“I used to say to them, one of the qualities you need to have to work with me is that you have to be ready to die for Nigeria,” he said.
“But compared to 2007 until now, the number of those who are preparing to die for Nigeria is becoming fewer and fewer.
“They see that the country is not prepared to die for them, and the leaders are not prepared to die for them. It’s very unfortunate,” Princewill said.
Criticising some of the political activities witnessed in Nigeria, Princewill said that there is nothing inspiring in the nation’s current political ecosystem.
“Our politics is very unfortunate and nothing to be proud of. We need new blood, fresh blood in the system and we are not getting a lot of that unfortunately.
“I always say politics is too important to be left to politicians,” the politicians added.
