The spokesperson of the Nigeria Police Force, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, has addressed the concerns raised by some Nigerians regarding the handcuffing of singer Seun Kuti upon turning himself in to the police.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Adejobi explained that it is a standard procedure to handcuff suspects before their detention.
One Twitter user, @ajilomoto, questioned the necessity of handcuffing and the confiscation of Kuti’s shoes by the police.
Adejobi responded, stating, “It seems you are not familiar with detention? With this question. Anyway, it’s a normal procedure before detention.”
This clarification comes after the Inspector-General of Police, Usman Baba, had previously ordered the arrest of Seun Kuti. The directive included a prompt and thorough investigation into the alleged assault, as well as the subsequent prosecution of the suspect.
