Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra has dismissed rumours circulating on social media claiming that former Governor Chief Willie Obiano has died.
In a statement released on Friday by his Press Secretary, Christian Aburime, Soludo described reports that Obiano had passed away in a London hospital as “malicious and utterly false.”
The governor confirmed that he had personally spoken with Obiano, who is alive and in good health.
“I view with grave concern the reckless circulation of such malicious rumours. It is both wicked and completely irresponsible,” Soludo said.
He urged media practitioners, particularly online publishers, to uphold journalistic ethics by verifying information through official channels before publication.
“The spread of unverified death rumours is not only wicked and irresponsible but also erodes public trust,” he added.
Soludo also called on the public to disregard the trending report, assuring them that Obiano remains hale and hearty.
He extended his best wishes to the former governor for continued strength, peace, and a long, fulfilling life.
