Prominent political figures from all 17 wards of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State have thrown their weight behind Governor Siminalayi Fubara and the Speaker of the State Assembly loyal to the governor, Edison Ehie.
The PDP stalwarts, including former Council Chairman Solomon Abel-Eke and State Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria, Chijioke Ihunwo, urged their kinsmen, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike and state lawmaker Martin Amaewhule, to put an end to their hostilities.
The group announced their intention to launch a grassroots campaign for fresh elections to fill the state assembly seats.
The defection of Amaewhule and others from the PDP to the All Progressives Congress (APC) has, in their view, nullified their previous victories.
Reading the group’s communique at a media briefing, Ihunwo said Governor Fubara has not failed the people of Rivers State. He strongly condemned the verbal attacks and alleged police brutality Governor Fubara faced in October.
According to Former Council Chairman Abel-Eke, just as the people supported their son, Nyesom Wike, for eight years, they will rally behind Governor Fubara, even though he comes from a different ethnic group.
Abel-Eke added that their decision was backed by traditional rulers, youths, and women leaders across the LGA.

That’s a good development
Every Rivers man and woman support Sir Sim Fubara. Wike abolished everything that mattered to us . Bursary payments and scholarship awards that meant a lot to students from poor homes was abolished. No employments, no promotions and no payment of gratuities for eight years. Even the free medical care scheme for the aged, pregnant women and children under the age of ten put in place by Sir (Dr) Peter Odili and continued with by Rt Hon Rotimi Amaechi was abolished.
I commend the well thought initiative of the good people of Obio/Apor (17wards) LGA to rally their support to Governor Sim Fubara. This is highly appreciated for greater Rivers State.
So wike is trying hard to pull down his boy?
