The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Thursday dismissed reports that he suffered a heart attack while in London.
Wike, who said he travelled abroad to rest, threatened to personally send condolence letters to those who spread the false claims, joking that they would be the ones to suffer a heart attack.
He made the remarks during the flag-off of the construction of Arterial Road N1, stretching from Wuye District to Ring Road II, Abuja.
Responding to the reports, Wike said, “Since I took this appointment as minister, I have never had time to travel abroad, so I decided to take a holiday. Each time I travel, I carry files and official documents, but this time I went without any.
“If the world will crumble, let it crumble, because one must be alive to do their job before satisfying everyone. This role we are doing is demanding; people are always watching.
“Before I knew it, I heard claims that I was sick, that I had a heart attack. May God continue to help those who spread such stories. It is my prayer that I will one day write them a letter of condolence.
“You see the state of our country, where politics is played with everything. Someone can write anything on social media, claiming to know where I am or what hospital I was in, and people just read it and believe it.
“This is also a country where someone can call Mr President a criminal on social media and nothing happens. Nigerians are lucky to have a president who believes in the rule of law.”
