Nyesom Wike, the Minister id the Federal Capital Territory has explained why the present administration led by President Bola Tinubu decided to renovate the International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja.
Speaking at the commissioning of the project, the minister said President Tinubu after visiting the facility directed an immediate renovation od the buildings
He described the president as an astute leader who is focused on delivering the best to Nigerians and the nation at large.
According to Wike, the directive for the renovation of the project came from the president in 2024 during the inauguration of the ECOWAS parliament.
He said, “Last year, you (Tinubu) came here to inaugurate the ECOWAS parliament. It was an embarrassment for a country to have this as the ICC then, and you said, ‘How can we have this as the ICC?’ That shows leadership,” Wije quoted the president as saying.
He further warned that the use of the ICC by either individuals or organisations for events and other ceremonies would no longer happen without payment.
“I want to let everybody know, whether you are ministry or an agency, if you want to use this (ICC), you have to pay something; that’s the only way it can be sustained. Nothing like, ‘my brother or my sister is going to have a wedding,” Wike added.
