Former Spokesperson of the defunct new Peoples Democratic Party (nPDP), Chukwuemeka Eze, has said a plot by the Governor Nyesom Wike-led state administration to conjure fresh criminal charges against his predecessor, Chibuike Amaechi and the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Rivers State in the 2023 election, Tonye Cole, has been uncovered.
In a statement he personally signed, made available to POLITICS NIGERIA on Saturday, Eze, a chieftain of the APC in the South-South state, said the charges have been filed at the Rivers State high court.
He also stated that the governor has directed the Chief Justice of the State, Simeon Chibuzor-Amadi, to ensure that the matter is assigned to a Judge that will ensure a speedy trial and find the duo guilty in a bid to disgrace Amaechi and scuttle the chances of the APC at the polls.
Eze said the tip-off available to him indicates that Governor Wike is hell-bent on ensuring that the APC is frustrated from featuring on the ballot in the forthcoming elections and that the judicial arm has allegedly been given him an ironclad assurance to do his bidding as he considers the criminal charge as his last option.
Assuring that Amaechi and Cole will be vindicated, Eze called on officials of the state judiciary to be wary of being used in battle of personal vendetta.
