The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has appointed Olalere Olayinka, a veteran media professional and former spokesperson for ex-Governor Ayo Fayose of Ekiti State, as his Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media.
Anthony Ogunleye, Director of Press in the Minister’s Office, made the announcement in a statement on Friday in Abuja, noting that the appointment takes effect immediately.
Olayinka has over 20 years of experience in media and public relations and a rich background spanning roles in both the public and private sectors.
Ogunleye praised Olayinka as a “seasoned media and communications professional,” emphasising his extensive expertise in journalism, public relations, and media management.
“As Senior Special Assistant on Public Communication and Social Media, Olayinka will oversee the development of communication strategies to improve public awareness of government activities and facilitate stronger engagement between the FCT Administration and the public,” Ogunleye stated.
Olayinka’s credentials are notable. A graduate of the Nigerian Institute of Journalism, he previously held the position of Chief Executive Officer at Our Peoples FM, based in Ado-Ekiti, since 2018.
His experience includes serving as the Special Assistant on Public Communications to the Governor of Ekiti and as the Director-General of the Broadcasting Service of Ekiti State from 2014 to 2018. In 2018, he was appointed Media Adviser to the Minister of State for Works.
He also served as Publisher and Editor-in-Chief of Class Magazine from 2003 to 2007 and is the Publisher of Wazobia Reporters Online.
With Olayinka’s appointment, Wike aims to strengthen his media and communication team to foster more transparent and effective communication between the FCT Administration and the public.
