FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, on Tuesday, officially named the newly completed Southern Parkway Road in Abuja as Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way, in honour of the President.
The event marked the road’s commissioning, with President Bola Tinubu and other dignitaries in attendance.
During the event, President Tinubu praised Wike’s transformative efforts in the Federal Capital Territory, describing his vision as revolutionary and inspiring.
The President assured Wike of his administration’s support, saying:
“I will not say that I am surprised. Barrister Nyesom Wike, Mr. Project, thank you for giving us this home, and sincere commitment to shared values. Well done; as a team leader, you work so hard, tirelessly.”
He acknowledged the road’s role in easing traffic congestion, enhancing mobility, and promoting economic growth and national unity.
Wike expressed his gratitude to President Tinubu, stressing the administration’s support in completing long-standing projects in the FCT.
He described the Southern Parkway as one of the principal arteries conceived in the Abuja Master Plan to provide access and connectivity to the southern development flank of the city.
“The Southern Parkway is one of the principal arteries conceived and planned as a freeway to provide access and connectivity to the Southern development flank of the city as provided in the Abuja Master Plan,” Wike stated.
He further detailed the extensive scope of the project, which includes a 5.4km length of road with 12 lanes and four interchanges, along with associated underground infrastructure.
Wike noted that upon assuming office in August 2023, the FCT administration was confronted with many uncompleted projects.
To commemorate the President’s support and achievements, Wike announced the naming of the road as “Bola Ahmed Tinubu Way.”
