The vice president, Kashim Shettima has said that with some level of frugality, Nigeria can convert its debt into economic assets.
Shettima said with reasonable assets there could be sustainable economic growth, reduction of poverty amknv the people among many other benefits.
The vice president said this while speaking at the inauguration of the Supervisory Board of the Debt Management Office (DMO) at the State House, Abuja.
He urged citizens and leaders to stop seeing the nation’s debt as a financial burden.
Shettima said the current administration under the leadership of President Bola Tinibu is making efforts through the Renewed Hope Agenda (RHA)Tor nsure long-term debt sustainability.
He also called on members of the board to work together to develop a strategic debt management approach which could be adopted for the good of the nation.
Shettima said: “With prudent management, debt can be transformed into an asset for economic growth and poverty reduction.
“Our goal must be to formulate policies, regulations, and guidelines for the DMO, with a view to achieving long-term debt sustainability for our country,” the vice president said.
