Many Ugandans are lamenting the death of Mrs. Immaculate Onebe, whose decomposing body has been discovered in a septic tank at her home, more than seven months after she went missing.
On 6 January 2021, the 63-year old was waylaid and abducted by security personnel travelling in a Toyota Hiace ‘Drone’ who whisked her off to an unknown location. Frantic efforts by her family to trace her yielded no fruits, although security forces eventually admitted responsibility for her ‘abduction’.
Mrs. Onebe went missing at a time when similar abductions of opposition leaders, supporters and sympathisers had become the order of the day in the run up to, and in the aftermath of the 14th January election.
President Yoweri Museveni later published a statement taking responsibility for the abductions which he revealed were being masterminded by his personal military, the SFC, alleging that the victims were security threats.
