The Labour Party has strongly condemned the recent remarks made by the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Publicity Secretary Felix Morka, describing them as dangerous and inflammatory.
Senator Nenadi Usman, Chairman of the Labour Party Caretaker Committee, released a statement critiquing Morka’s comments during a televised appearance.
She asserted that his statements directly threatened the life, reputation, and business interests of the Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Mr Peter Obi.
“His statements not only pose a direct threat to the life, reputation, and business interests of Mr Peter Obi but also constitute an affront to the principles of democracy, decency, and responsible political engagement,” Usman declared.
She called on the APC to issue an immediate public apology to Obi and to retract the statements, emphasizing that failure to do so would amount to a tacit endorsement of reckless behaviour.
“Mr. Peter Obi, a man of impeccable character, has devoted his life to the service of Nigeria and the pursuit of good governance.
“To attack him with baseless allegations and threats is an indication of the APC’s inability to engage constructively on the issues that matter to Nigerians,” Usman said.
The Labour Party also urged security agencies to investigate Morka’s remarks, stressing that inflammatory rhetoric has no place in a democracy and could jeopardize national unity and safety.
“We remind Mr Felix Morka and the APC leadership that words have consequences. The Labour Party will hold them accountable for any harm that befalls Mr Peter Obi or his associates,” Usman said.
Reaffirming its commitment to justice, inclusion, and transparency, the Labour Party said it would not be distracted by threats or intimidation.
“Peter Obi represents hope and progress for millions of Nigerians, and we will continue to stand by him in his pursuit of a better Nigeria,” Usman affirmed.
She called on all political leaders to promote peace, unity, and responsible dialogue, adding, “The true measure of leadership lies in how we treat one another, even in the face of disagreement.”
