Yahaya Bello Absent In Court As EFCC Calls For Sanctions

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has called for sanctions against the former governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello over his alleged moves to evade the money laundering charges against him.

This call by the EFCC follows Bello’s absence in court on Wednesday, September 25.

The commision at the sitting today urged the court to issue sanctions against the former governor and his entire defence team.

Bello was expected to have made an appearance in court for arraignment on the 19-count charges levelled against him by the EFCC.

At the hearing, EFCC counsel Kemi Pinheiro prayed the court to hold defence lawyers Adoyi and Adewale responsible for contempt and unprofessionalism exhibited since the filing of the suit.

Pinheiro accused the defence team of showcasing an unprecedented level of audacity and irresponsibility and should be referred to the Legal Practitioners Privileges Committee for sanctions.
