Yoruba Nation: Sunday Igboho may die if extradited to Nigeria – Lawyer

Ibrahim Bamidele Salami, one of the five lawyers representing embattled Sunday Igboho, who’s facing immigration-related charges in Benin Republic, has revealed why efforts were ongoing to prevent his extradition to Nigeria.

Salami, who spoke on the matter, in an interview with BBC, explained that should Igboho be extradited to Nigeria, it is as same as sending him to his early grave.

While revealing that the Nigerian government is desperate at making life unbearable for Igboho, whom the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government accused of inciting violence against the country and being a gunrunner, the lawyer said the extradition is the only thing needed to ‘silence’ the activist.

His words: “What is important is for us to not allow them to extradite Sunday Igboho to Nigeria..because if we allow it, everything he has done wrong and how the Nigerian Army hunted him, will be same as sending him to his grave. And that’s the fight we are fighting in Benin Republic.”

POLITICS NIGERIA earlier reported that Igboho was arrested in Cadjehoun airport, Cotonou, Benin Republic last week on his way to Germany. The Yoruba activist was declared wanted by the Department of State Security Services, DSS after large cache of weapons were recovered from his home in Soka, Ibadan.
