You can’t impose Water Resources Bill on people – Ohanaeze tells FG

The apex Igbo socio-cultural organization, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, has warned the federal government against imposing the controversial Water Resources Bill on Nigerians.

Ohanaeze said this while reacting to a statement made by Lai Mohammed, Minister of Information, on Tuesday that there is no going back on the bill and that the bill is in the interest of the nation, and has no bad motive whatsoever.

Speaking to reporters, National Publicity Secretary of the group, Prince Uche Achi-Okpaga, berated the government for not always listening to the demands of the people. He noted that no amount of force could subdue the people’s will.

Achi-Okpaga said that the bill had been rejected by Nigerians and wondered why the government claimed that the bill was in the interest of the nation.

He said: “We are not interested whether the eighth National Assembly rejected it or not. What we are saying is that Nigerians rejected it. The National Assembly, is it not the National Assembly of Nigeria? Nigerians have rejected the bill in its entirety.”
