The Rivers Elders and Leaders Forum has warned Governor Sim Fubara that he has no constitutional or legal power to implement President Bola Tinubu’s resolutions regarding the state’s political crisis.
The elders were reacting to Governor Fubara’s declaration that he would go ahead with the peace deal proposed by President Tinubu.
In a letter addressed to Fubara and dated December 26, 2023, the elders forum commended the governor for maintaining peace but added that the environment in which the peace was brokered showed no sensitivity to the people’s security, political and social interest.
The elders also told the governor, “You are a principal participant in the entire saga, and the Presidential Peace Proclamation is not as bad as being portrayed by those genuinely opposed to it,” noting that the peace proclamation has elicited mixed reactions from Rivers people and across the country.
The forum advised the governor not to place too much premium on the assurances of “detractors” but rather to be guided by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as he swore to uphold.
“The Forum believes that there could be peace in Port Harcourt and indeed the entire Rivers if only your Excellency would be circumspect in your actions, measured in your engagements, and have a critical mind in your review of events.
“Therefore, Mr. Governor, you have no constitutional or any other legal power to implement the Presidential Peace Proclamation,” the letter signed by Chief Rufus Ada-George stated.
An Abuja court just pit paid to these shenanigans who would rather have chaos and carnage in place of peace and harmony in the state.
AND WHERE ARE THE SAN EDUCED TO ARMCHAIR BRIEFCASES LAWYERS LIKE Falana WHO WOULD RATHER HAVE LEGAL RESOULTION IN PLACE OF THE POLITICAL?
The Femi Falanas and the Clarks who are no longer thinking and speaking like elder statesmen which they were never worthy of.
I respect Governor Fubura.s sense of responsibility maturity with the wisdom God has given him to neither listens to and or cave to the pretentious veiled detractors masquerading as meaning well for Rivers state and the people.
THIS WOULD HAVE GIVEN IT TO THE Wike THEY ALL DESTESTS SO MUCH AND HE IS NOT MY FAVOURITE EITHER.
Thank God for the joint wisdom of President Tinubu and Governor Fubura on the resolution put in place to avert chaos and political unrest in Rivers.
