A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Femi Fani-Kayode, on Friday said Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), lied to Nigerians with his alleged narrative on the June 12, 1993 election.
POLITICS NIGERIA reports that the June 12 election, widely believed to have been won by Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, was annulled by Ibrahim Babangida, former military head of state — and this threw the country into a political crisis.
However, after being jailed for attempting to challenge the annulment, Abiola died in prison in 1998.
In the build-up to the 2023 general elections, Atiku’s camp had claimed the former vice-president was involved in the “June 12 struggle”.
But in a tweet on Friday, Fani-Kayode, a former Minister of Aviation, said Atiku was among those that betrayed MKO Abiola and June 12.
@atiku is a wicked & treacherous man, a dark & malevolent soul & an incorrigible & unscrupulous liar. His claim to have played a role in the June 12th struggle is patently false. He was amongst those that betrayed MKO Abiola and June 12th. 1/

“@atiku is a wicked & treacherous man, a dark & malevolent soul & an incorrigible & unscrupulous liar. His claim to have played a role in the June 12th struggle is patently false. He was amongst those that betrayed MKO Abiola and June 12th.
“Years later he betrayed Shehu Musa Yar’adua (his mentor), Olusegun Obasanjo (his boss), Umaru Yaradua (his brother), Goodluck Jonathan (his friend), Muhammadu Buhari (his President) and PDP (his party). That is the creature that claims that he won the election!” Fani-Kayode wrote on his verified Twitter handle.
Where was he (atiku) during June 12 he has not joined politics by then.
