‘Your time will also end’, El-Rufai taunts those in power

The former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai has cautioned leaders in power over the kind of life and actions they met out to others while in service.

Speaking at the presentation of a memoir authored by a former Attorney General of the Federation, Mohammed Adoke, the former Kaduna governor he plans to write another memoir.

The book titled, “OPL 245: Inside Story of the $1.3 Billion Nigerian Oil Block” was launched in Abuja on Thursday, July 10.

An author of “The Accidental Public Servant”, El-Rufai said he nurses no regret from his time in public service – either as the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory or a Governor of Kaduna State.

“About 12 years ago, I presented The Accidental Public Service at the time.

“It showed how friends abandon you, betray you, how those that you’ve been good to turn around against you. And everyone told me I made a mistake; that I will never go near public service again because in Nigeria when you are in government, you eat, you keep quiet, and you come and you remain silent,” El-Rufai said.

According to him, he is proud of his moments in public service and unbothered about criticism from different quarters of the polity over his actions as a public servant.

“I don’t think I had anything to hide in my public service years. I still don’t. And I know Bello Adoke has nothing to hide,” he added.

“So you can write a book like that and hold your head (high) because you know you did nothing wrong while holding public office. I appeal to those in power today to remember that their turn will come,” the former governor added.
