Former Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki, has called on Nigerians, particularly the youth, to take advantage of the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, urging them not to forfeit their role in shaping the nation’s future.
In a post on his official X (formerly Twitter) handle on Tuesday, Saraki lamented the low voter turnout in the 2023 general elections, where only about 26.7 percent of the 93.4 million registered voters turned out to vote
Nearly 40 percent of registered voters before the 2023 elections were between the ages of 18 and 34.
Saraki stated: “That gap speaks to the silence of that demographic when it comes to decision-making and silence does not build nations.”
Highlighting the importance of civic engagement, Saraki stressed that “your vote is your voice” and that citizens must not “outsource” their responsibility to others.
He added: “In Kwara, the State of Harmony, the call is even clearer. Harmony survives only when everyone plays their part.
“Whether young or old, in town or village, every registration strengthens our common voice, and every vote reinforces our shared destiny.”
He concluded his message with a rallying call to action, encouraging Nigerians to mobilize family, friends, and neighbours to register and vote ahead of the 2025 general elections.
