The Zamfara state chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has officially received Maharazu Salisu Faru, the lawmaker representing Maradun 2 constituency in the state house of assembly, who defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The defection ceremony, held at the APC secretariat in Gusau, was chaired by Tukur Umar Danfulani, the state party chairman.

Faru was accompanied by five PDP ward chairmen — Ahmad Lawal (Sarkin Samari) of Gidan Goga ward, Sanusi Ahmad Liman of Tsibiri ward, Lawal Mohammed of Kaya ward, Shingi Dan-Abu of Janbako ward — as well as the PDP ex officio member for Maradun, Salisu Dodo Faru, and hundreds of their supporters.

Speaking at the event, Faru said his decision to dump the PDP was due to Governor Dauda Lawal’s “failure to fulfil campaign promises” and his “lack of concern” for the people’s welfare.

“Insecurity was the main reason people voted for him, but he has shown no concern for the plight of his constituents,” Faru said.

He accused the governor of neglecting Maradun 2 constituency and discriminating against party loyalists.

“There is no fairness in Dauda’s administration. Only favoured PDP members and members of his cabal are reaping the dividends of democracy,” he said.

The lawmaker described the PDP as “a party in crisis at all levels,” adding that many of its members and governors are already moving to the APC.

He explained that his defection was also in solidarity with Minister of State for Defence Bello Matawalle and former governor Abdulaziz Yari, whom he credited for maintaining unity within the APC.
