Governor Dauda Lawal has declared that Zamfara State has witnessed a marked improvement in security, attributing the progress to his administration’s deliberate and sustained efforts to restore peace across the state.
The governor made the remarks on Thursday during a symbolic “Walk for Peace” rally held in Gusau, the state capital, to commemorate the second anniversary of his administration.
The event, which drew thousands of participants, was organized by the state government to promote unity and mobilize citizens against all forms of criminality, particularly banditry, which has long plagued the state.
According to a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the peace walk began at the Government House and culminated at Freedom Square in the heart of Gusau.
Addressing the large crowd, Governor Lawal said the turnout was a testament to the renewed hope and confidence of Zamfara citizens in the state’s security architecture.
He said: “Today, we all came out in our thousands to march for peace—to show the world that Zamfara has significantly improved in terms of security.
“My administration has invested heavily in empowering security agencies, gathering actionable intelligence, and fostering strategic partnerships to restore peace. These efforts are yielding results.”
The governor noted that areas once considered bandit strongholds have now become safe, with major roads and rural communities previously off-limits to residents now open and accessible.
“Roads that were once impassable are now clear. Travelers now move freely without fear. This is not just a win for government, but for the people of Zamfara,” he added.
Governor Lawal emphasized that the large and enthusiastic turnout for the peace march reflected the people’s yearning for lasting peace and their appreciation for government interventions.
“You can see how joyfully people are going about their activities and how united they are in walking for peace. This shows that Zamfarans are inherently peaceful and support what we’re doing to sustain that peace,” he said.
The state government reiterated its commitment to rooting out criminality and ensuring that no part of Zamfara is left behind in the ongoing efforts to secure lives and property.
The “Walk for Peace” is one of a series of activities lined up to celebrate Governor Lawal’s second year in office, as he doubles down on his administration’s focus on security, governance, and development.
