As the 2023 general election approaches, a former Senate President and presidential aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Pius Anyim, has said he does not believe any cabal will anoint President Muhammadu Buhari’s successor.
Anyim was speaking as a guest on Political Roundtable, on Lagos Mainland FM on Sunday. The programme was monitored by POLITICS NIGERIA.
Quizzed by a caller how he intended to deal with the ‘cabal’ in Aso Rock to become the next president, Anyim replied: “Maybe you still have the impression that it is Aso Rock that will ordain who the next president will be. I do not share that view.
“I think with the new Electoral Act, people have more confidence that their votes will count.
“Whether cabal or no cabal, I am going to give my first shot at the presidency and I will win.”
Anyim is expected to vie for the PDP’s ticket with the likes of former Kwara State Governor, Bukola Saraki; erstwhile Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar; and ex-Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi.
