2023 Presidency: INEC told to generate 50 million votes

A former presidential aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Kingsley Moghalu, on Tuesday said the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) should generate at least 50 million votes across the federation when the 2023 presidential election is held in February.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that Moghalu who asked Nigeria and its citizens to take inspiration from Brazil and Kenya, lamented a “lack of understanding of why elections and our votes matter”.

“Our very low voter turnout in Nigerian elections reflects a lack of understanding of why elections and our votes matter, lack of confidence in the organization and integrity of elections, and lack of a voting population informed and with convictions about issues.

“In 2023, @inec should do all to generate not less than 50 million votes for the presidential election out of 95 million registered.

“Look at Brazil, with a population of 215 million (same range as Nigeria) and 119 million voted last weekend. Kenya recently had a 64% voter turnout,” Moghalu, a former Deputy-Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), wrote on his verified Twitter handle.
