2023: Real reason I rejected working for Peter Obi – Tinubu’s former campaign director

The former Director of the Civil Society directorate of the Presidential Campaign Council (PCC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Najatu Muhammad, has said she rejected “overtures” from Peter Obi, presidential candidate of the Labour Party for the 2023 election and other top candidates, because of her allegiance to the APC.

POLITICS NIGERIA recalls that Muhammad announced her decision in a letter dated January 19 and addressed to the National Chairman of the APC, Abdullahi Adamu.

Speaking with Punch in an interview published on Monday, Muhammad stated that although she highly respects Obi, winning the forthcoming 2023 election will be a herculean task for the former Anambra State governor.

“I was getting overtures from Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Rabiu Kwankwaso, and I kept rejecting them because I didn’t want to come across as a hypocrite.

“Obi and I wanted to meet, but we were both very busy, and I outright refused to meet with Atiku.

“I am quite close to Kwankwaso, and this is even beyond politics. I knew what he did as governor of Kano State. He prioritised education, provided an enabling environment for businesses to thrive, and rehabilitated drug addicts,” Muhammad said.

She added: “I respect Obi very highly. He has been the rallying point for the youth in this country. However, both Obi and Kwankwaso are handicapped now. They started their parties too close to elections, and they don’t have structures. So, no matter how hard you try, it is difficult to make it.”

  1. Ebenezer Babatope just stated the obvious. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and his group have taken the battle too far They now assume themselves to be above the law and this is really very unfortunate. Is it not even annoying to see betrayer like Victor Okezie Ikpeazu and ifeanyi Ugwuanyi trying to use this as a face saving gimmick to cover their betrayal of their brother Peter Obi to Wike.
It is hightime the National leadership of the party wield the big stick to make them feel the heat too. It is becoming something else.
If for nothing else, the death of the PDP Governorship candidate in Abia State is now a turning point for Ikpeazu. If the National Chairman of the party does not formally write to inform INEC of this death, what will Ikpeazu do? He can not do the writing himself, neither can he present a replacement.
Ezenwo Nyesom Wike and his group of co-travellers should be made to feel the heat and the time is now.
