2023: Why APC might opt for a southern candidate – Lawyer

As the 2023 election draws nearer, Lagos-based lawyer and activist, Dele Farotimi, on Tuesday said the All Progressives Congress (APC), might settle for a Southern candidate because its main opposition, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), opted for a northerner, Atiku Abubakar.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that according to Farotimi, in the event the ruling party picks a Southerner as its flagbearer, it might be aimed at ‘silencing the cackling hens’ in the region.

“If the APC picks a southerner, it’ll be because the Jihadists (referring to the PDP) have settled on Atiku Abubakar as their flag bearer, and the choice is designed to silence the cackling hens in the south,” he wrote on his verified Facebook page.

Ahead of the APC’s presidential primary election today, this newspaper learned that the South West, South East and other groupings in the party met severally to come forth with a consensus to no avail.

Meanwhile, the frontline aspirants including Bola Tinubu, Yemi Osinbajo, Rotimi Amaechi, and Káyòdé Fayemi through their agents on Monday reached out to the delegates in their hotel rooms to seal the pact with them ahead of today’s election.
