2023: Wike’s ‘preferred candidate’ remarks put Atiku on edge

A Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader has said Governor Nyesom Wike’s recent comments are putting the presidential candidate of the party, Atiku Abubakar, on the edge, which is not going down well with the latter’s loyalists.

POLITICS NIGERIA reports that ahead of the 2023 general elections, Governor Wike who is having a frosty relationship with Atiku recently said he will soon reveal his preferred presidential candidate among the frontline flag-bearers: Atiku, Bola Tinubu (All Progressives Congress, APC), Peter Obi (Labour Party) and Rabiu Kwankwaso (New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP).

The source, a former member of the National Working Committee (NWC) said Atiku’s camp are unhappy with Wike’s ‘emperor’ disposition.

“Wike is giving them (Atiku’s camp) signs that he will work against him,” Vanguard quotes the PDP stalwart as saying.

“Wike is getting feelers that some interests around Atiku do not want the PDP presidential candidate to give in to his demands.

“He also has some people within Atiku’s camp, especially in the NWC. The anger with the Atiku camp is that Wike cannot be seen to be controlling the party.

“Also, Wike is expecting Atiku to give him an update on what was discussed at their London meeting but Atiku is yet to call him. That is why you hear Wike making those comments.”

  1. What happened during the PDP primary was a sham. Why did Tambawul throw in his votes into Atiku ‘s vote to enable him win. It is akin to changing the rule of the game in the middle of the game. Fulani conniving with Fulani to continue to run down the country.True federation is a must or everybody keep his/her own corner of the country.
