“Thousands of Christians are being killed in Nigeria” – Trump insists

The president of the United States of America, Donald Trump has again lamented the alleged killing and persecution of Christians by the deadly Islamic terrorist groups.

Trump reaffirmed his view at the launch of his new “Board of Peace Charter” in Davos, Switzerland on Thursday, January 22.

Unveiling the board with a $1 billion membership fee and a controversial guest list, Trump said the US government is making efforts to annihilate the terrorists who have made the killing of Christians their stock in trade.

Also confirming that the December 26, air strike which was launched in Sokoto, a Northern State of the country, killed some terrorists, the US president said, the insurgents are being hit hard by his administration.

His words, “And in Nigeria where I am annihilating terrorists who are killing Christians, we’ve hit them very hard.

“They’ve killed thousands and thousands of Christians what’s that all about?” he said.

Recall that Trump had earlier declared Nigeria a Country of Particular Concern following repeated terrorist attacks that have left several people killed in various northern states.

Following this proclamation, the US President also threatened to deploy soldiers across the country to ensure an end to the killings.

While his proposed intervention was met with mixed reactions from different quarters of the polity, the US government on December 26, launched an airstrike in Tangaza Local Government Area of Sokoto State.

The attack, which was said to have been carried out in collaboration with the Nigerian Government “resulted in no civilian casualties.”
