86 still in captivity as 80 worshippers escape from bandits’ camp in Kaduna

No fewer than 80 worshippers abducted during a church service at Kurmin Wali in Kajuru Local Government Area have reunited with their families.

Ishaku Dan’azumi, village head of Kurmin Wali, disclosed this in an interview on Sunday.

Dan’azumi said although about 177 worshippers were initially believed to have been kidnapped, 80 were later confirmed to have escaped and sought refuge in nearby communities.

He said 86 worshippers were still being held in captivity by bandits.

Dan’azumi said: “We have observed that some people are trying to politicise our situation, even as families are going through serious trauma.”

“We are appealing to the government and the military to expedite action to secure the safe return of the remaining 86 people still in the bandits’ camp,” he added.

When contacted, Mansir Hassan, police public relations officer in Kaduna state, said the police would issue a detailed update.

Hassan said: “The police will come out with a comprehensive report on the Kurmin Wali abduction.”
