NNPP Finally Breaks Silence on Reports of Kwankwaso’s Alleged Talks to Join APC

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed claims that its national leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, engaged in talks to leave the party for the All Progressives Congress (APC).

Responding to the reports, NNPP National Publicity Secretary Ladipo Johnson stated that the former Kano State governor never considered defecting to the APC.

“It is deeply disappointing that such falsehoods are not only being circulated by some people seeking attention but are also published as major stories in leading newspapers,” Johnson said.

He added, “We want to state clearly and officially that Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso never held any meeting with President Bola Tinubu or any APC representatives, inside or outside the party, where the subject of switching parties was discussed.

“Just days ago, a newspaper ran a front-page story detailing why Senator Kwankwaso’s alleged ‘defection’ failed, citing supposed demands he made before joining the APC. That narrative is entirely false—nothing of the sort ever occurred. It seems designed to tarnish Senator Kwankwaso’s reputation, but it has failed.”

Johnson urged Nigerians to ignore such media reports, whether presented as news stories, opinion articles, or columns, calling them a “poor attempt to damage Kwankwaso’s name.”

He also referenced recent speculation following Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s switch of support to the APC, which had led to reports suggesting a disagreement with Kwankwaso over “high demands.”

The claims were reportedly fueled by statements from Baba Yusuf, who told Arise TV on Friday that Kwankwaso had misjudged his influence during alleged talks with the APC.
